What Is It?

If your hip joint hurts, you might have a condition called femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). This happens when the shape of your hip bones changes, and they start rubbing against each other. Activities like walking uphill, sitting, jumping, or playing sports like hockey can make the pain worse. It can also happen if you have a certain way of walking or if your hips are turned inward, which puts extra pressure on the joint. Symptoms of FAI can include a dull, achy pain or a sharp pain that feels like your hip is catching or locking. You might also feel tightness in your hip muscles and hear a snapping sound when you move your hip.
